Homework for Chapter 1
Due Friday, Jan. 19th at Noon
Remember that all homework must be typed and turned in on-line.



Everybody:
Problem 1.28: from the book, "If the occurrence of B makes A more
likely, does the occurrence of A make B more likely?"
Prove your answer in formal notation (e.g. using equations and/or
inequalities with things like Pr(A|B)), rather than just talking in
loose terms about it.

Also, give an applied, real-life example.  Dice and other casino/gambling
things do not count as real-life.



In past years, I assigned the following problems, but this year
you are not required to do them.  You might want to look at them,
though.

A hint: Venn diagrams can be very helpful on some of these problems.
